Spanish association of manufacturers of urban furniture and playground areas
The industrial activities of manufacturing playground and other urban furniture make up a specific productive sector, integrated into the secondary processing industry of wood, metal and plastic. In 2007 in Spain, the manufacturing sector and provision of children’s play areas consisted of a total of 85 companies considered by themselves as “playground manufacturers”. This is an industrial and business group as too heterogeneous enterprises of very different types. For their expertise are distinguished into three groups: 1. Companies engaged almost exclusive in the manufacture and supply of children’s play areas and/or elements. They represent less than 15% of the total. 2. Companies primarily engaged in the manufacture and supply of children’s play areas and/or its elements but also manufacture and supply other products, mainly sports equipment and urban furniture. They represent over 50% of the total. 3. Companies for which the manufacture and supply of children’s play areas and/or its elements is a marginal activity intended to diversify its product range. They represent an important group, over 30% of the total. According to estimates derived from the strategic plan done by AFAMOUR last year 2007, the sales volume of the manufacturing and provision sector of children’s play areas in the same year reached 350 million Euros. The 77,31% of companies have had a turnover between 1 and 5 million. Only 11,01% of companies exceed a sales volume of 5 million. Companies in the manufacturing sector of children’s play areas are mainly concentrated in Valencia, with 21.62%, and in Cataluña, with 20.27%. Moreover, in almost all the autonomous communities exists manufacturers of children’s play areas, linked to the supply of part of the regional market, with particular emphasis on the provision of maintenance and replacement of product in the parks and existing public areas.
